The Black & Green Internship for Nature Programs Interns is an exciting paid summer opportunity for young people aged 16-20. The hourly pay ranges from $18.27 to $19.42 and offers around 200-250 hours of work over the summer. This role is part-time, perfect for students and recent high school graduates looking for valuable experience working with youth in an outdoor setting. No resume or cover letter is needed, making it accessible for those new to the workforce.

Daily Responsibilities and Typical Tasks

As a Nature Programs Intern, your main tasks will include assisting with nature camps and facilitating educational activities for children. You’ll lead group games, supervise hikes, and help with arts and crafts projects, all designed to inspire young participants to enjoy and appreciate nature.

You can expect an active workday, spending most of your time outside rain or shine. The program values your willingness to work as part of a team, take initiative when instructing groups, and help create a fun, safe environment for all campers.

Schedules are flexible, typically Monday through Friday between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, making it easier to balance other summer plans. Multilingual candidates may qualify for a bonus if assigned to certain community programs.

Pros: Unique Perks and Support

One major advantage is the comprehensive benefits, including free drop-in access to all recreation facilities for you and family, plus discounts on classes and camps. You also earn paid time off and sick leave, even as a part-time or seasonal employee.

The opportunity to be part of employee resource and affinity groups and participation in employee recognition events create a welcoming environment. The program focuses on both personal and professional development, giving you experience in education, leadership, and outdoor recreation.

Cons: Consider Before Applying

A challenge for some may be the physical nature of the work, as you’ll be outdoors regardless of the weather. If you’re uncomfortable with variable summer hours or leading groups of children, this may not suit you.

Additionally, as this is targeted at youth who are expanding upon fellowship experiences, applicants new to youth or nature programs may feel less prepared, though support is offered throughout onboarding and training.

Verdict: Should You Apply?

The Black & Green Internship is a strong fit for motivated youth eager to explore careers in nature education, recreation, and youth engagement. It offers a supportive workplace, robust perks, and a unique chance to build leadership and teamwork skills.
