Garden Assistant
Full-time gardening with 30+ hours per week. No formal experience needed – on the job training. Ideal for outdoorsy, hardworking people. Vehicle and licence required.
The Garden Assistant position offers a full-time contract with a minimum of 30 hours per week. All applicants must have a hard-working attitude and a willingness to work outdoors. On-the-job training is offered, so no formal experience is necessary. However, a vehicle and full driver’s licence are required to travel between work sites. A passing drug test and MoJ check are essential for employment. The role best suits applicants who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty and want stable hours with physical work.
Key Responsibilities
Daily, you’ll be involved in loading and moving supplies and equipment. You’ll help prepare garden sites, planting and transplanting flowers, shrubs, or trees. Maintaining gardens is another core task, with duties including watering, pruning, mowing, and sprucing up lawns. Pests and weeds are addressed by spraying and dusting as needed, and you’ll also help keep gardens tidy by removing rubbish and debris.
Pros
A clear benefit of this role is the opportunity to work outdoors and enjoy physical activity, which many find refreshing compared to traditional office jobs. The low barrier for entry—no formal experience required—means motivated people can quickly secure employment, develop new skills, and gain industry experience.
Cons
On the downside, this job requires a willingness to work in all weather conditions and sometimes start early, which may not suit everyone. The expectation for a full driver’s licence and personal vehicle could also be a challenge for some applicants who do not already meet these conditions.
Verdict
This Garden Assistant role is an excellent entry point for those who thrive on outdoor activity and want hands-on work. With stable hours, on-the-job training, and the chance to grow skills daily, it’s a solid option for anyone eager for a physical and practical career path.
